Hi to all. I would appreciate any advice in finishing pine for furniture e.g. tall boy, bookshelf. I want to stain in a mahogany colour and have the glossiest finish possible. Any tips or suggestions regarding sanding / staining / clearcoating would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the late reply, looks like this posting got lost in the midst of nowhere for a while...
What you want to do really depends on your skill level on how your going to be best to achieve the desired finish. If you have little experience then probably just using hobbiest products (poly/u's estapols etc)from your local hardware is the go. They are simple to use, but don't really provide a great finish, especially if you want a glossy finish.
However if your a bit more keen you could go to a specialist coatings company and see what timber finishing products they sell. Your probably best with an N/C lacquer. THis is still easy to use and the results can be great especially if used in conjunction with lacquer pulling liquid to create a really good gloss level.
As for the timber beign pine. Well do a search on this board and you will find a heap of info on this subject. It really is no different to finishing any other timber type. THe same principles are used on many timbers. Though I usually add some stain to the lacquer to colour the piece more evenly.
