Any Insect Experts Here?

Hi,

Can anyone identify (with some certainty) what the insect is in the picture attached? It is approximately 1" (25mm) long.

Thank you lads for the replies but my fear was it was a cockroach:doh:. Fortunately I have only sighted 2 so far in 3 days, maybe they were the reconnaissance team:rolleyes:.

As you said DJ Timber it looks very much like the oriental version which isn't surprising given that I have Vietmanese and Thai neighbour either side of me. Maybe they are trying to force me out:oo:.

Wait till they see my British bulldog:wink:.

Looks a lot like the bush cockies that we get under the bark of fallen wood. Had any bush wood moved in recently....???

Watson is right I think you'll find, we used to call them wood bugs when we were kids. Difference they are easier to squash. They live mainly under bark, can send some if you want?

Lay bait, set traps, you're in for an infestation. Leave nothing in the way of food scraps for them to eat, and check for odd looking marks and stains on your walls. That their excreta, which they also leave on your toothbrush after they have foraged that overnight. They have come up from your sewrage pipes, but can be found in the yard as well. :-

We in Australia are mainly infested by German and American cochroaches, and this one os black, so it is American. The German roach has a bit of brown around its edges from memory. :oo:

They are filthy so declare war on them now.

I think you will find what Watson says it is. I get them all the time in the trees when I cut them down for firewood. Never had them in the house. I think they like to live in the bark of trees. Much slower moving than the German and American version.

Hi Watson,

Not that I am aware of:?. However, the next door neighbour had one of their large trees chopped down today so we may see some more yet - I hope not:wink:.
