What is the best way to plug holes in aluminium sheet roofing? The hole is around 5 mm.
I'd probably use a suitable size aluminium or monel pop rivet, liberally coated with silicone before inserted and popped.

I thought of patching with a piece of aluminium off-cut and gutter silicon, but I think the pop rivet plus silicon is a better method and result.
I have an Ali roof too, and it appears that a couple of repairs have been done exactly this way, and are holding up OK.
What ever you do, DON'T use Galvinised roofing screws to hold it down, the Ali and the Galv do not play nice together. Someone apears to have done this on a couple of patches on my roof, and they are rusted out completely.
The best alternative is to use Ali screws, but they are hard to come by.
Not sure what I am going to use, as I need to do some repairs in the the next few weeks..
Anybody know if I can use stainless steel screws?
I had a problem with my corrugated AL roof, through expansion and contraction, where:) it wore through in a couple of areas in the bottom of the corrugations. I found an Al backed self adhesive bitumastic strip which I laid under the corrugation and it has given 5 years of service thus far. I did have a piece of polycarbonate see through sheeting and used a small piece of this under the "patch" to hold it up against the sheeting. Re the stainless steel fastenings, that is all I can find in NZ but the ones with the screw and large rubber washer on top do cover a multitude of problems.

The info on my packet of stainless steel screws indicates it is ok for aluminium sheeting. I'll be using them with stainless steel washes to fix some aluminium flashing.
