I dont know how to describe this, but when we flushthe ball cock dosent seem to always stop the tank filling, and consiquently the overflow keeps going down the bowl.
This dosnt happen all the time, somthing seems to stick.
sharply tapping the flush buttons fixes it.
were wasting a lot of water.
Its a caroma duel flush
would it be a worn part?
I dont want to have to get a plumber if i can fix it myself?

Have you Popped the Top off at all?
Then you might be able to see what / where it is catching.
Often a slight bend / twist will help;
though that was with a Brass Float Arm.
A renew of Seals wouldn't hurt.
One can get Kits to suit the particular Model Cistern.

A rebuild kit is cheap as chips and not hard to install. Bunnies will have them. The old "wiggle the flush button" trick, if it's working, tells me that the flapper that drops down to seal the tank is worn or cracked or has a piece of grit under it. :)
Yep your inlet valve is probably cactus. You can get a replacement but beware of the real cheap $20 bunnies ones especially if you have high water pressure. I would renew the old ball float valve as they are better than the new plastic junk IMO.

I have had the top off but cant figure out the mysterious internal worlings of a modern loo.
At first I thought it might be the push buttons sticking
but it happens when the tops off too.
the water keeps running into the bowl even before the cistern is full so a doggy inlet valve thing sounds reasonable or if its leaking before its full would this be an outlet valve?
Think Ill have to take the cistern off the wall and dismantle the whole thing.:oo:
This means turning the water off at the mains?

Now that you say that the water is running into the bowl as the cistern is still filling it sounds like the outlet. They're really basic things - maybe the seal at the bottom is broken or has some rubbish stuck in it.
Turn the water off at the mini stopcock and pull it apart clean it, replace the washers and see how you go.
so where is the mini stopcock?

There should be a Stopcock on the wall,
below the Cistern.
I agree, Why bother with a fix when changing out the guts will only cost you pennies and your time. Less time than worrying. :2tsup:Quote:

Aaaahh, my unlearned friends, a caroma dual flush doesnt have the brass arm that the older models do, they have a plastic arm and a float. When these are put together right, as they are from factory, the arm never fouls. First you must screw the top off the inlet valve and you will see a cone shaped inlet on the top that a little black rubber stops on. Inspect this as sometimes it will get hair-line cracks in it and the rubber wont seal. If this is good you will need a caroma flat seal washer and for the inlet I think its a 'ballcock 2' kit with a big red washer and an aspro washer. Replace the outlet washer (caroma flat seal) while you have the float arm apart.

new float $20, new outlet seal $ 4 , replace both- no omore problems.
sounds like you either have a problem with the water height in the cistern or the seal on the outlet.
