shower taps

in my shower the cold water tap is a real pain to get to the right temp, you turn it on a half turn or so to get the water going and then when you adjust the cold tap its only a tiny movement between cold and hot , takes like 5 or 6 goes to get to the right temp.
any ideas on a fix?

This may sound crazy but does your hot water system have an adjustable thermostat. Maybe if you change the temp of the hot water it will put the cold in a better flow range and it won't be so fiddly.

Worth a try for zero cost.

Is your hot water, main pressure , instant or gravity fed ???

Shower head water saving or older type ???

Could all make a differance....

Also tap water on the hot tap restricting flow...

sound like a pain

When the water starts flowing through the hot tap all the fittings are cold. As they start to heat up they can slowly expand and restrict the flow. For the first minute or so, the hot water tap may be acclimatising to the temperature of the water that's flowing through it. After that the temperature should stay stable and be easily adjustable from either tap, unless someone opens another tap, creating a pressure differential.

Here in adelaide at least, im finding alot of problems with the water saving shower heads and devices that go with them, It seams as though if you put more than one or two watersavers in a pipeline they play up and don't work.

You say the pressure is good, But how is the FLOW rate, litres per minute.
If your getting about 9 or 10 L/P/M without the water saver then you probably will have problems after you install it.

Try turning your hot tap all the way on, wait till hot water comes out, then mix your cold. this seems to work for some cases.

If your getting 9-10 L/P/M with out the water saver then ripp it out and be done with it. You arn't rquired to have it- your just required to be below 9- 10 LPM.

If your problem is due to the fittings heating up then perhaps you should look at replacing the tap mechs with ceramic jobs? They use a pair of ceramic disks instead of the traditional washer. Google for more info.

I'm pretty sure you can buy kits that use the existing tap bodies, but I can't say for sure... I've always had the whole assembly replaced with a single mixer. :shrug: (Ceramic, of course. :;)
