Using GLT for structural work.

G'Day Guys,

can anybody forsee any problems with using Glued Laminated Timber for the structural work in a deck. I gather by that he means posts, bearers etc. This is the builders recommendation. Is GLT OK to use for this application?

Depends on the timber. I have seen exposed glulam beams distort and begin to de-laminate in the past.

Moisture might be a concern. How exposed would it be? Is the GLT rated for outdoor exposure?

You can use Hyspan in weather exposed situations with a few extra precautions. It needs to be treated to H3 as well.

HySpan is definately better if you protect it properly.
