I want to remove a kitchen wall to do the open plan look. How can I tell if a wall is load bearing before I let loose with the hammer.
Climb up into the roof space, locate the wall and see if any timber runs from it to the roof above. If it does its load bearing. It's not quite as simple as that and you might like to get someone around for a quick inspection
Could be a bracing wall too. The only way to tell is to remove the plaster.
I'd recommend you contact a builder.
If you're taking out an entire wall, then It's almost undoubtedly carrying at least the ceiling, if not the roof as well.
Post some pics of the top of the wall inside the ceiling, or get up and have a look. Then give a more detailed description, or a drawing with dimensions and you may get some more specific advice of what you may need to put in there.
