I have posted too many pics!

I tried posting a pic today and was told I could not because it would exceed my limit. (Perhaps I've missed a post somewhere explaining this.) So, after deleting pics that I've posted over the past 2 years, I was successful in posting my pic today.

Problem is that people who follow a thread that maybe 6 months old and read about making a splined box want to look at the pictures that are referred to in the post. The guy who posted them has to remove them if he wants to post any more pictures.

Perhaps there is a cost involved in 'leaving' pictures there but surely some of the classic threads like 'How to restore a plane' and step by step instructions on building a chest of drawers deserve to remain in the archives.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I vaguely remember asking a while back if there was a limit on the pix and the PTB's told me "no." I sincerely hope that this isn't another thing that's changed with recent upgrades.

Any idea what sort of number/overall Kb's of ULs you had before you started pruning?

At the moment it says that i am using 888 KB to save 16 uploaded thingos and i can't load any more. I always do the right thing and downsize the piccies.
I would like to think that even I have more than 16 interesting pictures that could be shared.

You really oughtta start cropping your pix! :p And you'll notice that Carry is using only 808Kb for 16? Them figures are about right.

But it looks like something is wrong with your setup somewhere, Carry... have a mod or "someone in the know" contacted you about it yet?

Might be time to make like a squeaky wheel? First I'd check it again, though - just to make sure they haven't slipped a "stealth fix" in on you while you weren't looking... :wink:)

My oldest pic is still there (going back to June 2005). Something screwy somewhere. To avoid certain scams, if you post too quickly you have to wait a little while. Only 1 post allowed every minute. That's the only barrier I've ever run into.

I've only ever contacted Neil about the Forum and the Orange Caped One about my Triton. If anyone is out there, please have a look at my setup. Checking this morning: 888KB (for 16 uploaded items)

It is good to know there is no limit because those posts on fixing up old hand planes are priceless. They should stay forever.

I prefer to use Photobucket, or Imageshack for larger pics up to 1.5MB. You can post them as links, thumbnails, or full sized images in PMs, emails, or on other message boards. You can view your albums, or sub-albums as thumbnails on a single page, or on multiple pages if you have a lot of photos stored.
They're both free, but with Imageshack you don't even have to sign up if you don't need to keep track of what you've posted. Just upload a pic, and you've got the option of a direct link, a thumbnail link, or the full image. :2tsup:

The problem with linking to off-site pictures is that they may move or change address & then the post on this board no longer displays the pictures.

There are a few threads in 'The Best of' that are now missing some of their pictures. :(

Yeh, that is a downside but Photobucket and Imageshack are pretty big and they've been around for a while now so I don't think they'll fold.
If an image has disappeared, then it has more than likely been hosted on the posters own webspace which they've since shut down.
Perhaps I'm being selfish, but I like the way you can manage your albums, and post huge pics without having to resize them if you want. You can also make private albums, or post a link to an entire album or sub-album containing lots of pics on a particular project.

Totally agree with Cliff's point, it is a real shame that some valuable pics are now missing & a fair number of threads are the poorer for it.

'Tis indeed a pain to resize & reduce pics to upload, but it is a worthwhile contribution to the quality of the forums and is appreciated by many.


Carry, bit of a busy time for the admin team but your prob has been noted & will be addressed as soon as possible.

Yes but you aren't stopped from posting any more piccies.
I get :
You are currently using 888 KB to store 16 uploaded attachments and my red line goes across the horizontal dial only leaving a little bit of green. When I come back from hols I'll investigate further.
