To deck or not to deck

Hi,

I have a patio that is currently slate tiled and it looks like crap. It's ok for the first couple of months after sealing but then ends up looking like crap. So I'm thinking about putting decking over the top of it. The patio is 3.8m wide x 6.4m long. I'm assuming that I put battens down over the slate to nail the decking to and then some posts off the end of the patio to tie it all together. Does this sound like a sensible idea or am I dreaming?

looks like I might need around 280 lm - this could get expensive!

How thick do the bearers need to be? They will be bolted to a slab (through the slate).
