Fascia Board Repair Options

Hi,

I need to repair my fascia board after someone/something yanked the phone line from the street off the power pole and in turn caused damage to my fascia board :(( where the support bracket for the phone line bolts onto the house (see pic). Unfortunately no one saw who/what did this so i am left with the bill of getting Optus to repair the line and bracket.

The top two bolts of the bracket have been ripped out and the board has been split/cracked. Could anyone recommend a simple fix if there is one?

I Googled and found this product - Fascia Fix has anyone used this?

Your diagram indicates that the damage is limited to a few cracks. To fix the cracks, an option could be to use something like Fuller's Building Filler, a product which I referred to in this thread:

Screw, or nail in a noggin behind the fascia, in between the rafters. If you can't get good purchase then screw a multigrip to each end of the noggin and into the rafters, to strengthen the connection. Then bolt the bracket right through it and bog up the fascia damage with some building filler as suggested above.

If it's possible to move the bracket over to an undamaged section, then I'd think about using a filler and a coat of paint as a purely a cosmetic repair.

Personally I'd fasten a short length of board to the outside of the fascia to both cover the damage and give the bracket solid timber for mounting. If this is too "in your face" then I'd consider either a noggin on the inside or something like the Fascia Fix.

One trend I've noticed lately is for the bracket's to be screwed to the fascia instead of being bolted... if I was doing this repair, I'd definitely be bolting through with a backing plate due to the damage already done. (But I got my qualifications in the bush-mechanic school of carpentry. :D)
