Reviving old doors

I recently started stripping the paint from hoop pine doors in my queenslander. I used a heat gun and scraper then tried to clean it up using sandpaper. What showed through appeared to be a shellac finish so I tried steel wool and metho followed by a wipe with a rag lightly wet with metho. The original finish came up a treat.

The problem is that I have ruined the finish on the bottom rail, with most of the deep colour of eighty years being removed. How do I re-shellac to match the colour? Also, there are the odd nicks, scratches and one or two cracks where the paint has penetrated. How do I remove these without further damaging the original finish?
