Secret "recipes" for finishing
Hello all
I thought it would be a good idea to start a new thread on peoples little recipes for different finishes. It would be very useful to document the little tricks we all use to get that special finish.
I am just new to this as most of my work to date has been carpentry and it usually gets painted. What I have found though by trial and error (and I take no credit for this as its likely been done before) is that a mix of 50/50 boiled linseed oil and poly is great for finishing just about anything.
It is fantastic on tools with wooden handles as not only does it rejuvenate the wood but it looks good for a much longer time than linseed alone. I have also used it on my workbench successfully. It is dead easy to apply with a rug and a little bit goes a long way.
I have also experimented with using stain in such a mix and that seemed to work allright too.
What little tricks does everyone else use? If there is a bit of a response to this the thread may serve as a great resource to us all.
regards
Marios
