Exhaust Fan ducting through the roof.

Our new(ish) kitchen (slow progress) has a large exhaust fan over the hob.
Here are the pics of how I went about installing the duct to the outside.
Very similar job to the woodheater flue kit I installed last month.

1. The duct kit components.

2. The transition in place & the hole marked out on the ceiling

3. The trick I used to mark out the hole.

4. A short double ended panel drill bit was used 'cos it goes blunt quickly.

5. Multi holes around the edge, note cardboard to stop the dust going down the duct.

6. Hack out the circle.

7. New hole showing the roof above.

8. Roof marked with a pen.

9. Now we go up top.

10. Pull the sheet off & start hacking, note the mark on the turned over sheet.

11. Make up the framing to hold the duct. Angle of ceiling measured with an adjustable bevel. I also have to cut out a bit on one end of the long pieces to fit it around the existing water pipes in the ceiling.

12. Hole finished in the sheet & frame in place.

13. Sheet back on, it all lines up. Note the dimensions of the hole marked on the roof & flashing.

14. Flashing in place & drawn out from the marks.

15. Hole cut undersize in the flashing & the edges are cut to the line & turned up to make a lip to keep any water out.

16. Turned up edges, longer on the top where the water would be coming from if it leaked.

17. Duct in place, SS screws through the side of the duct from the inside into the framing in the ceiling.

18. Dektite in place & marked with a pencil. Hat also fitted.

19. Duct riveted with SS rivets & joint filled with neautral cure silicon.

20. Silicon around where the Dektite will go using the pencil lines. Note, I turned the cut lip on the flashing in to touch the duct & coated it all with silicon as well.

21. Dektite pushed down & riveted in place with SS rivets & more silicon wiped on the joins from the outside.

22. Silicon around the hole in the ceiling to stop vermin & bugs.

The duct work inside the house will all be covered with painted MDF to match the cupboards below.

Job done.

Thank you.... the finish is something called Acid Etch, like some sort of car paint.
