yes i remember working an an 6 ft old rikety ladder once and i was standing on the very top so i has my feet on both sides of the flats then the middle brace gave way i dead set landed with my feet firmly planted on the ground could not believe it. i wish i had it on video, one minute i was in the air the next i was back on terra firma upright and the ladder was splayed out like it was an extension ladder beneath my feet
Wearing a cardigan is dangerous enough at the best of times!:oo:
Just imagine if someone you knew saw you!:D
Don't stretch to reach that last little piece, get down and move the ladder across.
- Don't use ladders with missing rungs. Sure, you'll remember it when climbing up, but will you on the way down? DAMHIKT
- If it rocks, move it to a more stable position; don't bother chocking it... Murphy's Law says the chocks will move at the worst possible time. DAMHIKTEither
- Never stand on the top rung of a step-ladder, either use a taller ladder or set up a trestle.
Remember: no matter how much time you save by thinking "it's risky but I should be OK," the wait in Casualty will always more than cancel it out. :(
Oh yeah, watch out for those power lines too!
Neverf chock a ladder or trestle! Much quicker and safer to use a mattock to dig under the leg(s) to level

Ladders are for getting to places, not for working from. Use a trestle or a platform.
If getting off a ladder on to a roof or similar, tie it to a gutter bracket, it's suprising how little wind it takes to blow it over when there is no weight on it.
Not only are cardigans bad but if coming off a roof, watch out for getting your ladder stuck up your shorts leg.
