I have a roof leak due to rotted roof flashing around a chimney on a Kliplok Roof.
The bottom of the gutter is rusted so far that its fragile, and coz the bottom stays wet even on a sunny day I can't bodge it up with silicon.
Is there any temporary way I can prevent the water leaks until I can get a roof plumber out. As its wet weather (which isn't good for roof work) I don't expect to see a plumber soon.
Tarp the roof from above the ridgecap down the slope that is leaking.
If you keep the water off the slope above the hole, you stop the leak.
Fold it around the base of the chimney so that the water running down it can run off either side around the chimney without collecting in a pond in the tarp.
Tie all the corners & edges so it can't flap in the wind.... mabe even take some bricks & pavers up & sit them around the edges to stop it flapping in the wind but don't put anything up there that might flick off & hit some poor bugger on the head.
I haven't got a tarp huge enough to do that cliff.
Just had a thought though. I'm going to mix up a soft batch of water putty and glob it on the holes, that should hold for a little while.
Bob there use to be a silicon that went on even under water , haven't seen it advertised for a while though
Perhaps duct tape over the holes or tape some plastic over them

You don't have to tarp the entire roof, just start at the highest point & cover the sheet of iron that runs down to the hole at the chimney.Quote:

Cliff - Its a big flat roof without a ridge so I need a huge tarp.
Ashore - That was selleys clear and I know from experience that it won't stick to wet metal.
Just found out the plumber cant get here till Friday at the earliest so its on with the bodgy repair if the rain hangs off for another hour or so coz I really don't like walking around on a wet tin roof.
Use "Pabco Hydroseal" -black bitumuos (Spell?) tar type product and paint over the holes and rusted sheet.
If not available - same stuff is used for underbody coating on vehicles.
If you cannot see the area from the ground then this will last as a leak seal for years.
I don't think I can get the flashing (chimney gutter)dry enough between showers for it to stick.
Is it possible to use a hair dryer up there for a few minutes to get it dry enough for silicon/bitumen? (If it stops raining long enough - Bloody rain who needs it?? Oh that's right, we all do, bugger!!)

I thought oif my hot air gun but it died.
So I just bogged it with water putty and if it doesn't rain for half an hour that should stop the major leaks for a few weeks.
If the plumber doesn't get here by the weekend I'll do the hairdryer trick with some pabco. (Love pabco - its me favorite walnut stain for pine - thinned down of course)

mate grab a scrap piece of gal sheet cut er out with tin snips coupla pop rivets some selleys allclear for the gutter mate around the chimney you can get some adhesive flashing which is flexible i use to use it installing antenna gye wires through roof tiles and that'll fix er up for the time being!
The base metal wouldn't hold a pop rivet or screw, needs totally replacing.
Being a camp ground manager sometimes I have to find a temporary fix until the proper job can be done. Coz its out in the sticks finding tradesmen can be difficult at times. S'pose yer could call me "Thomas Der Dudder"
Visit a swimming pool supplies shop. If vinyl liners are used in Oz, they'll likely have a patching kit that goes on underwater without having to drain the pool. Probably just use the goop, though.
