Decking nail withdrawal report

Here's a report i found on the net. It compares different types of nails with different combinations of decking and joist materials.

I thought this was an intersting report but I've got no decking experience so make up your own mind about it.

I thought the most interesting part was how screws compare to nails.
Although the test was mainly aimed at different types of nails, a single screw
type was also tested (c/sunk SS 8g/50mm long thread). The withdrawal force
for the screw was around 10kN, which is around triple that of the best nail
(a machine-nailed screwed dome type). Most other nails were much worse.
Shame they didn't test a few other types/gauges of screws as well while they
were at it.

The test appears not to have covered the possible difference between naive
vertical insertion versus dovetailed insertion. Nevertheless, the superiority
of screws over nails (by a large margin) makes me glad I used screws on
my own deck. :)

relative is useful, all i want now is a test on 50mm c brads for holding power, now that you can get ss ones! - that'd be pretty much a deck without fasteners on view! I suspect only for 60mm wide KD boards though! ;)
