Plaster Vents
I have recently replastered a couple of bedrooms, and when I pulled the old plaster down there were decrotive vents in each room.
So I was wondering do i need to replace them? Do they serve a function or are they just decrotive?
I haven't seen vents in new houses. I have a weather board house, which I'm assuming breathes naturally.

Hi plaster vents don't really serve any purpose. Hence the changes to the building regulations in the early 80s saying that vents are not required.
Plaster vents both wall and ceiling vents were use mainly to take away the fumes from candles and kero lamps back in the dark ages.
In fact I would say they would be detrimental to the energy rating of a home due to escaping heat.
Leave them out.

If you have a period home, them plaster over the hole and put a new vent over the top.If it is a more modern house, just don't bother replacing them.

If we are putting in a vent for decorative purposes we paint the wall black behind the vent.
This makes it look like there is a hole.
Do the same when installing a vented ceiling rose.
