has anyone tried dulux once?

Just wondering if anyone had tried the dulux once and if so, what they think of it? I know its more expensive/doesnt cover as much area per litre and all that but i think it would save time so could be a good option for me. I have already faced the fact that I will need to undercoat my medium to dark blue walls but once that is done will i really only have to do one coat of the dulux once?
Can anyone tell me from experience if it comes up ok and looks professional? Or if it looks like what it is i.e. the quick option?

I don't think there is much chance of a dark blue of any brand or type of paint covering in one coat. Dark blue , maroon and depending on the shade other colours need to often not only need two or more coats but also need a ground coat ( a coloured coat to help it cover better.) If its meant to cover all surfaces in one coat thats a big ask, obviously the paint has to have a high pigment content but if it doesn't cover you are now putting on a more expensive paint and still having to do another coat.

Depending on the actual colour it may be necessary to first tint your undercoat as a ground coat, OR put 2 or more coats of your colour onto the undercoat (especially if it is white undercoat) Real dark blue colours need black and lighter ones a dark grey helps.

Using 2 coats on any colour helps insure you have complete coverage all over the wall with one coat you risk having a thin/light/bald spot in the finish.

The actual coverage rate on a tin of paint is to give you a guide as to how much area is able to be covered by the litre of paint but not all colours cover the same.

This measurement is gained by painting over a black and white checkered panel the less paint it takes to make the checker pattern disappear the more area in square meters the paint will cover. In theory the better the coverage the more pigment in the paint and therefore the more expensive it is. Obviously to cheapen the paint you water it down somehow but any quality paint will vary depending on the actual colour.

May be worth while doing a test first, buy a sample tin of your chosen colour and do a test run to see what will happen.

I'm sure one coat of white over a previous coat of white would work well but thats a lot different if the old paint is a long way away from your dark blue.

you've probably well and truly painted by now, but I thought I'd post this for anyone else that's wondering...

I've just painted the new extension with Dulux Once. Holy Heck! It's fantastic. Coverage was brilliant. Defiantely only a one coat job and it covered over all the "tester" patches some quite dark, without even a shadow. I swear I'll never use any other paint again. One coat and all done. That was the best bit.
