I think you'll need a hanging beam whichever way you go on those dimensions.

If you're replacing them due to sag, I'd go with a hyspan or similar - having said that, (and I may be way off) you could marry these into the existing joists I guess and reduce the impact on the ceiling (though i suspect there is no ceiling left at the moment!)
