Gaps in floorboards - how to stop water dripping through?

Hello, I've looked throught the threads here, but I can't find any about gap filling boards when I'm not sanding the floor.

Basically, we've got small children who spill their water, and worse on the floor. Now, we live in a Qld'er which used to be open underneath, but now has an (illegal) granny flat underneath, so every time one of the kids spills something it drips through the gaps in the boards.

At some point in the future, when I'm not a broke student, we'll get the floors sanded professionally, but at the moment what I want to do is fill the gaps for a few years. As always I have "temporary" short term measures, but what can you do!

Any ideas?

I had a few gaps in the floorbards in our old place that were too big to fill with putty before we sanded them, so after the fact I filled them with a coloured caulk (Caulk in Colours) that sort of matched the boards. It's water clean up, so you can squirt it in, then wipe over with a wet cloth to remove the residue. It's waterproof once it cures.

How about cement sheet and vinyl over the top?
Pull it all up later when you are not broke, the sheet is cheap and most carpet places sell end of roll or off cuts which could be big enough.

The right sealant for the job is sikens 290DC cost is about 25 bucks per cartridge... you should paint there clear primer first... You will need to tape either side of the crack so you don't get it on the floor either side ...it is available in a few colours.. we generally use black....... After its dry you trim it down with a sharp chisel.........It is sandable when they do the floor eventually and you can then coat straight over the top provided you use the right floor coating..........

We have done it on occasions it takes time but solves the issues ...we have done gaps as wide as 12mm with a backing tape
