Hi Dan,
When I installed mine, the base was tied down to the roof battens and the actual whirly part was screwed into the base. Hpe this helps.

its a simple fit to the roof batten, via nail or screws, go buy a new one, read the installation instructions they are fairly basic and easy to understand and most of the brands on the market for residential use all fit the same way anyway....
You could undo the spinning top from the frame, held together by a nut onto the central bolt running through the bearing, and regrease the bearings.Quote:

If you need to replace it, Dan, you could buy a new one the same size & just replace the head, saving the trouble & time to swap over the lot.
I work at Bunnings & when we have them on display they usually take a tumble or two, which pretty much buggers the heads. You may be able to pick up one such as this cheap & use the bearings.
Ensure they're the same as yours first, though... ;)
