All in one portable aircon V inside/outside unit

I purchased a portable aircon unit about 6 months ago (the one with the duct to pipe out hot air) and found that it was no where near big enough to do the loungeroom and kitchen (no door between them so i cant close it off), recently i have found a portable aircon that has an outside unit attached instead of the duct, just wondering if anyone has used one of these and if they are any good, the btu rating on my unit is 15000 and the other unit is 9000, will the inside/outside unit work well enough to overcome its lack of btu's?

Any help would be appreciated.

Don't even bother with them, they are only useful for very small areas and they are expensive to run, sitting infront of them is great though.

If you can have an airconditioner installed, it will do a far far better job and be cheaper to run and even a window ac unit will do more then a portable one.

I know the portables are crap, i paid $800 for one, they are great to sit in front of and since i do night shift i only use it in the bedroom pointed straight onto the bed, i thought since it had the compressor outside it might work better, as you can tell i dont know alot about the workings of air cons.

After a bit more research, if the information i have found is accurate then i need one that is around 18000btu, the problem is that i am renting and the landlord wont pay for it so i have to find some way of doing a temp install with no permanent fittings, one way i have thought of is to find a split system that i can run off a power point,run the hoses through the window (i believe you can get flexable hose that will work) and use a stand of some sort for the inside unit.

At the moment we have a cold spell so i have some time to work out the details.

You can get window units that will run of a normal plug which will allow you to have it in your window without damaging the house in any way.

It's generally easy enough to fit an a/c through a window without any permanent fixings. Sliding windows are the easiest. Usually a platform the size of the A/C, sitting through the window with a support to sit on the outside sill. Suports will vary with your particular situation. Put AC in opening, as close to evenly centred as possible but with the vents on the outside. Slide window closed and fit a shhet of ply above the A/C unit to block the rest of the opening. You will probably need to fix a screw or two through the slider for security, but you can even avoid this by fitting a bit of timber in the track.
