I have a new gas hot plate and in the box it came with five strips of what looks like rubbery blue tack stuff about 5mm wide 350mm long i think it is to put under the hot plate were it sits on the bench.I think if use it there it will squash out and look a bit crapy. Any ideas.
Put it on the perimeter of the footprint of the hot plate, fix the hotplate in place, then trim it with something not too sharp. I think I used the rounded end of a steel rule on mine.
I use the back of the blade from a blunt Stanley knife. Same stuff is also used to seal around SS sinks.
the idea of this is to put it around your hotplate edge (midway around the surround ) then fit your plate tighten it down ,then trim the excess from the outer area ,what you choose to trim it with is entirely up to your discretion
Do what they said, it's there to stop liquid going into your cupboard should you spill on the top eg oil,water,soup. consider it a gasket.
