LCD Monitor - What do you have?

What monitor do you have?

I am looking for a nice new LCD monitor. Current one is a #### box.

So, I want something that is wide screen 19inch preferably bigger, around $400 give or take. Not a pricey one, but still a good one!

Just want an idea of brands to steer clear of, and brands that you recommend.

Also, anyone know what to look out for when choosing... ie I know response time should be 6ms or a faster. Are there any other things I should look out for before committing to buy?

Or do you know of any websites with good reviews, helpful information?

Although not widescreen, after a lot of research, pricing etc, I just bought a 20" Viewsonic VG2021M. About $370 and worth every cent.

Benq, good monitor but.... I worry about the company... they aren't paying their bills so I suspect they are about to go under. :((

I got two LG screens for my birthday recently. They run at 1440 x 900, colour is great, response time is 5ms. I will be returning one under their zero pixel fault warranty within 14 days of purchase (1 bad pixel).

I only got a 24" Dell, cost a wee bit more than $300 tho...

A mate just got himself two LCD screens. Biggies too. The company he works for decided not to use desktop computers to drive their CNC machines (or whatever they are) and have gone to some weird little boxes. The displaced computers were 'retired'. He liberated the screens from the BIN :oo:

true story - he was stunned too.

Although 'Freebies' is a good value brand (c Daddles) I use a Sony 15" at home, which probably gives nearly the same vertical resolution as a 19" wide screen - I frankly don't like these odd shaped 'wide' thingies.

Anyway, I think Sony LCD's are the best currently available - excellent visibility when off-angle and in strong light. I think my screen is over 5 years old, and not a problem, no dead pixels, company going strong etc.

Unfortunately a 17" cost nearly $600. :-

They're not odd shaped its the 4:3 ratio thats odd shaped.

My boss got me a 19" LCD (Samsung I think). I hated it, so I gave it to SWMBO and took her old 19" Phillips CRT.

At work I've had an HP 17" for the last couple of years. It seems to be a pretty good monitor 1280 x 1024 resolution. No idea what it cost of course.

At home I have a seven year old Hitachi 17" CRT. :(

Gonna have to upgrade the home PC one day soon. :rolleyes:

I've had a BenQ lcd for some years, with a 3 year warranty. After about 2 1/2 years, it developed a weird blue halo around high contrast images. The distributor replaced the screen no charge, no quibbles, and it's been going strong ever since, now well outside the warranty period. Sad if they're going belly up.

24 inch Dell widescreen. I'm never using anything smaller again!

Two 17" Dells and one 19" Dell. All performig great and all under $300 US.

I, on the other hand, got sick of driving twin screens. This way, I can do all the work I like spread out over plenty of screen real estate, and don't have to deal with having left and right monitors.
