Synteko Urethane 1666 gloss

I have a friend being advised by a flooring installer that the Synteko urethane is a better alternative than a polyurethane.

A search only had one hit on the oil and seemed to indicate it had a drying problem.

Is it in fact a superior choice or would you recommend poly be used instead. The floor has been recently repaired following flooding and half the floor had a two-pack poly on it. The entire floor is being sanded back to bare timber, so which is the better route to take?

The spec sheet says that the Synteko can be re-applied to itself later, which may prove to be an advantage.

This is an insurance repair and my friend is concerned the change from poly to Synteco is more to the advantage of the installer than himself (ie the product is cheaper or less labour intensive to apply rather than a better product).

I'd advise your friend to insist on Polyurethane, as per what was on the boards in the first place.

Insurance work is possibly not the best time to be testing and trying a new, or alternative system.

If the flooring contractor doing the work is the one selected by the insurance company, you can bet your left testical that you would never see him again in the event of something going wrong.

And, given the fact that he is pushing a product that isn't used that often, you will find it equally difficult to find another floor sander willing to have a go at fixing it if something does go astray.

Whereas, if your friend insists on a Polyurethane finish it is always easy to find someone willing and able to help fix it in the unlikely chance that it plays up.

At the end of the day, Groggy, your mate should not only get to choose what type of finish is going on the floor, he/she should also be able to make the choice on what contractor will be doing the work.

Tell your friend not to let the insurance mob push them into using who they want.

For what we all pay in fees and premiums, we have the right to choose who we have come into our houses to do the work for us and how we want the work completed.

Thanks Dusty, he went with the polyurethane as suggested. Your reasoning matched ours and, given no other reason for the change, he decided that what he had before did the job so he did it again.

Urethane is Tung oil modified finish. Polyurethane is a full polymer floor finish with no tung oil in it. Polyurethane is the hardest wearing finish apart from 2 PAC polys. Both finishes are able to be repaired but abrasion resistance is greater with the poly.
