G'day All,
Has anyone any info on using copper sulphate as a mordant in wood dyeing?
A search comes up as zilch.
Interested in what chemicals to follow it up with.
Regards,
Noel

Thanks Fred,
I'd Googled Copper Sulphate Mordant Wood, and missed that one.
I tried the search words in a few different orders this morning, and a few different pages come up. Must remember that when I search.

Noel

Thanks Gil,
Opens up another world doesn't it.

I think Coppersulphate might stain the timber green.
I have successfully used ammonia as a mordant.
Thanks Bob,
Can't find my chemistry book, and "the classic finishes book" doesn't give any details.
I know it turns the galanised top of my brewery bench black where it spilt on some salt.
Did you dip the ammonia or fume??
Regards,
Noel
Dipped.
btw Copper sulphate is corrosive to some metals.
Yer welcome, Noel.
I have some other info on mordants (related to dying). As soon as (when) I find it, I'll post it here. There is much more to artistic dying that most folks realize.
Cheers,
