restore a teak table/oil residue

My father-in-law gave us a wonderful teak extension table. Problem is that he rubbed in so much oil over the years that it's a sticky mess in hot weather - placemats stick to it and it's sticky to touch. Apart from sanding, is there any way to remove this old oil?

Turpentine should help and if not it won't really hurt.

I've restored quite a few Teak dining suites over the years. Many of them come up looking new after being stripped with Acetone.

Same as turps if it doesn’t work it won't really hurt.

I not a expert at restore furniture ,but i did a table once and got a tip from my grand father he was a french polisher .sand the table as much you can and pore metho spirts on it the get a match set it alight ,do this in section all over it .it burns the waxes .But I only done this because the table has been french polished

Geez Jimmy - you're freaking me out a little. This table came to us from my Father-In-Law who passed on - via a house fire!

I used Turps on a small section. It semmed to help the main problem (place mats sticking on like superglue in warm weather)

I do think that just turps is not enough. The whole table needs stripping. Just a bit concerned about actually setting fire to it . . . thanks for the post and the PM tho.
