Just wondering if anybody has ever purchased mezzo brand aircon from aldi, good price for a large unit $699, but since it is going to cost over $1000 to have new circuit etc installed at the opposite end of the house I don't want to be penny wise and pound foolish. Despite much research I cant come up with anything about them with regards to efficiency, reliability or anything else for that matter

It comes with a 5 yr warranty on compressor and 12 months on installation, (they are imported by a firm called tempo in frenchs forest Sydney) so I figured if there was a serious problem then aldi would be responsible
G'day Frazzled, I recently installed a "nexus" brand in Cobar ($529) now I'm installing two emailair units. ($1099) The difference is surprising. The Nexus unit had clips to hold the grille open which broke, even before installation. Getting the wires connected took 2 hours of fiddling due to poor terminal design. The whole thing felt cheap. It also came with a "return to base" warranty (bloody useful in cobar!)
The emailair unit is quality. Well built and easy to install, supplied with all mounting accessories. It has a 5 year in home warranty.
As I sit here under a 15yo Fujitsu purring quietly, I realise that these things are meant to last years and years. Why save a couple of hundred bucks and spend twice the price of the unit installing it only to have it break in 5 years. I can tell you I'm not looking forward to my trip back to Cobar!
Don't be Penny Wise Pound Foolish, get a good unit for $1200 and if you want to save some money, help the guy install it.

I have to agree with Pulse, buy as good as you can afford and a noted brand. When we moved into this place (5yrs ago) it had/has a Uniair, never heard of them but it was installed by a company in Campbelltown and we have had them out several times to fix it. The problem was that every time we called them and they came out it would run perfectly, so no problem, nothing to fix, very frustrating.
Now it has finally shat it's self, it will cost as much as a new unit and they can't garantee I will not have more trouble in the future. So I said to my wife, that's it rip it out and we'll put a new one in. So we have a quote for a remove/install for a Dakin inverter ducted system, plus two extra vents for $8,500, might sound a lot but it will be cheaper to run in time and quieter also will do the job with ease, as it is a two motor unit outside and only one will run, two when needed and they change so as to spread the wear and tear.
I'll let you know how it goes, it goes in next Thursday. Have you considered a split system, we have a Dakin split down stairs and it is great!..
Thanks for the coments, I had a quote for a split sytem daiken it was $2,900 supply and install except for the electrics which I would still be responsible for so getting back to base price I thought this unknown might be the way to go, panasonic and fujitsu were the other ones and came within a couple of hundred dollars of daiken, but of course I have left it alltoo late for this year I feel, and am not sure if quotes I am getting are reflective of this as well
Whilst I can't help you with the Mezzo brand aircon I did purchase a Mezzo brand clothes dryer from Aldi about 18 month ago. It was half the price of the known brands similar to the aircon you are looking at.Quote:

thanks all, have decided to go with a fujitsu or panasonic, is there much difference between the 2, each retailer I have spoken to gives a different version also which one is more reliable when it comes to after sales service
Well, it is in and it is wisper quiet and does a fantastic job!....We also have a Dakin split which is what I based my decision to go with the Dakin inverter system.Quote:
