Concrete ridge capping how to??

Hi

We are in the process of tiling our roof, and were told that there is quite an art to cementing/fixing the ridge capping in place. Can someone give me a run down?? Someone suggested that they use a nail to hold the top cap up or something, and what cement to use to do this???

I really dont think its a job for a novice, because I have seen attempts that look terrible and leak, and would leave it to the pros.

Geez,Mahaylea,you are having a go at everything.The ridging on a roof is firstly "bedded"in place using a sand,cement and lime mix and then a coloured acrylic "pointing"mix is applyed in a thin coat over this.These days the tilers use guides to keep the ridge straight as they go up the hip,the same guides keep the height right also.I'd have to go with Jack on this one.If at all possible get a tradesman to do the bedding and pointing at least.If you and your family are pretty handy you might be able to lay the tiles but the saving wouldn't be all that much I wouldn't think.You would also have to know something about setting out the roof (battern spacing ,right lap etc)and just the method of doiing the job.Even in my job (bricklaying)which they say you can train monkeys to do there is a "knack"involving hand skills that don't come overnight.I hope this helps you.Regards Terry

Ive been working on a extend project for a couple of years which included the roof tiles and ridge capping etc. I had no idea how to do it, but what I did was run a string line up from the corner up to the top and it seemed to keep the ridge caps nice and straight.
But I must say out of all the things Ive done the roof work was the hardest of the lot to do.
next time I guess I'll use colourbond ;) may be easy then tiles to do.

We ended up paying someone to take care of it and it looks fantastic..We have had the roof resprayed and are nearly done on the inside finally..We just have plastering, stairs, bathroom to go LOL yeah not close to finishing really but at least it will be sealed..I will try to post some pics later when its all done
