Roasted chestnuts and blackened potates baked in the bonfire, in the chill of a frosty November night, and glorious sparkly whizz-bang things.
Penny bangers down the dunny to see if they would go off underwater (they did), then furious scrubbing before Mother came in to see what I'd been up to :D :D :D

Our whole town (which was only small) would spend weeks building up a bonfire in the middle of the local park. I guess 'twas the equivalent of today's Hard Garbage & Garden Waste Collection. :rolleyes:
One year 'twas the old man's turn to build the Guy so a mate & I pooled our ammo and snuck about a quids' worth of bungers into his stuffing. :o That was a LOT of bang and it left us woefully impoverished in the ant-hill destruction dept. over later weeks, but the results on the night were worth it! :D:D
