Gudday,
Have a simple gable roof. The ridge runs east west so it has a north & south side of the roof. It is a fairly shallow picth 15 deg. The hall runs directly under the ridge down the centre of the house. I would like to get more light into it. If I were to install a skylight should i put in on the n or s side? (the flex tubes would obviously allow either.
I assume (correct me if I am wrong) that the north side would be brighter but would also probably be hotter?

With a 15 degree pitch on your roof it probably won't make a great deal of difference. Maybe in mid winter the sun won't hit the skylight but will for the rest of the time. This assumes that we actually get sun in winter.
I'd probably put it on the south.

I fitted skylights for a home improvement company for a while. The tube type ones came with a reflector which was supposed to face North to catch more light, worked well down south apparently. Once you get north of the tropic of capricorn, there are times when the sun is actually to the south :rolleyes: , so we used to leave them out. We figured that in midsummer (when the sun was to the south) it was so hot anyway, that a little less light wouldn't hurt. If you're not in the tropics then facing north will catch more light, all of the year.
