Hey thats an endangered orange bellied parrot.
or is it a canary with hookbeak disease
He'd get a few bucks if you stuffed him and stuck him on a perch.
He could pine for the fiords :D
They are Red Rumped Grass parrots, beautiful, the area is full of them.

They all eat gravel, it helps grist up the gristable.

Arrrr, polly wants Al's gravel.
Redrumps are great little birds, I used to breed them amongst other when I lived in Sydney. Not the best birds as pets but really make great aviary birds as long as you don't house to many in the one cage. They can and do get a bit aggresive from time to time.
why are they called red rumped ?
I reckon aussiefication of naiming convetions would be great, imagine :
the red@sred parrot, redscrotumed wattlebird... babysheetyellow cockatoo he list would be endless...
The male bird has a red patch of feathers on his rump, the female does not. The female is almost a light olive green and a duller colour than the male. As well as the normal wild birds that Ozwinner has posted there are some great colours coming through in aviary bred birds. :)
