Buying a new oven

I am about to re-do my whole kitchen which includes buying a new oven, cooktop and rangehood.

One of the brands I am considering is St George (http://www.sga.com.au/) from Prestige Kitchen Appliances (http://www.prestigeappliances.com.au/).

One thing I have trouble understanding is the price difference in the St George range, for example:

St George - 58 Litre Capacity - $1099

Apart from the capacity, why is there a $1900 price difference between these two models?

Can anyone recommend any brands for consideration or to steer clear of?

Well, aside from the fact that it is much larger, it has a number of expensive add-ons lacking in the other model. Most specifically, a side-opening door which can be fitted to open left or right. Very few residential ovens (except at the high end) are fitted with side-opening doors and they must be hand fitted, made very robustly (no sagging allowed, but these are heavy doors), and carefully tested before shipment. Add to that the roast probes, timers, and other doodads, plus the "look at the one I got" mark-up, it's probably price about right. :D :D

I spent far too much time selecting my oven - 900mm free standing duel feul Euromaid, which is just a branded european job.
Things that are good.
Cost - on special Harvey Norman $1800
Size holds two baking trays side by side.
functions 10
Cast iron trivets- dont let a salesperson talk you out of them.
Stainless surounds- easy cleaning
Things I dont like
Oven linning - hard to clean, some ovens have elements that drop down etc and bosch claim that theirs cleans itself (or some such thing)
Conclussion pick the features you want and try to get them for the best price.

I looked at prestige when we started due to the good prices they advertised. After some looking around we got a better deal on a nicer oven.

Settled on a Loffra, totally happy with it.

because they can

unless you regularly really, really need to roast a whole pig or goat but still would like the capacity of the large oven I'd suggest you get TWO smaller ones. A friend did this and she can now cook a roast whilst cooking something else (like bread) in the second oven.

A few years ago Hardly Normal sold an 800 wide free standing Ilve model that is a nice compromise size wise.

Good Guys push Loffra. Which model did you buy?

900 cm gas, 5 burner, elecrtric oven. Also bought the splashback and rangehood. And the self cleaning add ons.

Best thing is it's so easy to clean. Din't need the splashback as the lid does the job.
