I caught a fish today

Definetly nothing to do with woodwork......just so proud of myself :o

Went on one of those deep sea fishing charters off evens head.

Mate of mine from work encouraged me to go against my better judgement. The first 20mins or so was good fun, accross the bar......but from then on to 8hrs latter I spewed my guts out.

Me and this other bloke were sitting together hurling the whole time.

However ! I did catch the biggest fish ! ......I hooked it, but then suddenly got a mouth full,,,,,handed the rod to me mate,,,,,hit the other side of the boat, and spewed my guts out.......good burly the blokes said. :mad: bastards.

Me mate ended up reeling in this big snapper that I hooked !... they all started yelling at me.......'Jake ! Jake ! ....look what you caught !', waving it beside my face whilst I'm hanging over the side......I just couldn't give a #####, I was that nauseus......I didn't actually get to see it until we got back.

You see, you have to get seasick to catch the biggest fish....

but Never again !..... stick with catching undersized whiting off the beach I think......can't handle the swells.

Jake I have a simple rule about boats in the open sea, anything under 10,000 tons is too small.
If you go again eat nothing but sao's for the 24 hours before and drink as little as possible, water included

Nearly everyone gets seasick, but it wears off after a day or two.

I've done about 65,000 km off-shore in yachts and I still get to hurl the first day. It's much worse in a little keel-less boat sitting still, broadside to a swell.

I still take pills for the first day. Over the counter stuff available in Oz is useless. I could tell you what to buy but they are not available here. Oz population too small to make the Gov testing and BS worthwhile. Next time we meet I'll give you a few. Take 8 hours before u sail - no worries.

Jake, I always preferred the trip out & back, the time in between was rugged (Bass strait :rolleyes: )

I used to work on a dive boat that went about 130NM out into the coral sea, I used to hurl occasionally, no big deal if you just stay relaxed. But I've seen one guy who literally turned green, I always though it was a figure of speech but he had a definite green tinge. He lay in the scuppers and threw up all night as we motored out and didn't pick up until we tied up to the first mooring and he went for a swim. He reckoned it was worth it though, absolutely brilliant diving out there.

hi jake great u got a fish where's the pix? seasickness or mal de mer is all in your head (keep telling your self that) when you start to feel a bit squeemish get off ya butt(even before u feel ill) move around as safely as you can get up front with the fresh air blowing in your face keep busy this is what i do and have never hurled and iv'e done lots of yatching and fishing in the bass strait only time iv'e spewed at sea was i was drinkin jim beam on the barrier reef and some one slipped me a double jack daniels(terrible stuff) i can't really blame that on seasickness:)

I have two Sydney to Hobarts under my belt, sailed a hell of a lot of small to medium sized yachts and never got seasick.........however..............in a stationary boat I can stand the pitching or the rolling, but put the two together and it's goodbye to brekky or whatever the last meal was.
You have my sincerest sympathy.

You can buy them here in Oz & you only need take them 15mins before the trip.
They are worth a try.
I know 2 people who have tried them for travel sickness & it worked for them.

What makes it even better is that Myth Busters tested a heap of things & the Ginger tabs worked the best without causing drowsiness.

Hi Jake,
I feel for ya, hate being on a boat myself. Hell, I've even got seasick on a surfboard!:eek: Its OK while the boats moving, but that stopping to fish business, not for me.
By the way, did you get to keep the snapper? One of the best eating fish I reckon, long as someone else the fishing!!:D

Motion sickness...

I have a story about my older brother, can be a pretty intense sort of a fella.

He got a new computer for his bookkeeping. I loaded the game "Doom" on for him. He played it for a while one night and actually got motion sickness & brought up the day's takings. True story :D

Needless to say I had the utmost sympathy for him & ragged him mercilessly about it :rolleyes:

My sympathies Jake I know exactly how you feel, I get the worst motion sickness. Especially as a kid, it only got better when I started driving. The wife calls me "Mr Woosie Guts", I always sit it out when it's ride time at the theme parks.

I like fishing but can't hack boats, what a curse.....
