I have a door sitting in the garage that was taken off our house during some previous renovations. I went to move it and the bugger weighs maybe 50-60kg. It looks like a normal white internal door. Is it a fire door of some sort, because I figure it must have some steel in it? There are no markings on it, other than a "Hume Doors" sticker. I think I will sell it, but I'm not sure how to describe it!

With those fittings, I'd be surprised if it is fire rated. If it is a fire-rated door, there would be a specifications panel attached on the hinge edge of the door.
My guess is that the weight etc is security only, not fire.

Fire doors have usually got a metal plate screwed to the hinge edge. It's unlikely that a fire door would be fitted to a house unless:
a) it was picked up 2nd hand, or
b) the owner/builder knocked it off a commercial job:eek: ;)
Most likely it's a solid core door (MDF) or blockboard. If you really want to knmow if it's a fire door then drill a hole in it, you'll find it's packed with a granular mineral stuff (bit like gravel).

PS if you want a really heavy door, try a 1M wide fire door that's lead lined. Had to fit a pair to an X-ray lab at a hospital once, took me a whole day for a pair of them.
Ive got a builder mate who fits out doctors surgerys etc, he fitted out a whole surgery that was lead lined.Quote:
