Removing tile advice wanted?

Hi,

I'm having a go at installing a new vanity unit in the bathroom and am wanting to tile behind and beside where it will be installed. To start I will need to remove some tiles from the floor and wall and rip out the old vanity. What is the best way to start removing tiles while keeping the remaining tiles intact? Yes I'm a beginner at this.

I am thinking that an angle grinder? to cut a straight line through the grout and use a bolster/hammer to remove from there? Are there any tricks?

I had to remove some tiles once, I used my tradelink rotary hammer drill (the type that takes sds bits) which i got from bunnings on special for $65. put the chisel that comes with it and set to hammer only function, it popped most tiles off in one piece, if you angled it down so the chisel got under the tile

Use your angle grinder with a diamond blade to make several cuts through the tiles, being carful not to cut through the sheets behind, then carfully chisel the pieces of tile off with hamer and cold chisel. You are probalbly better off not cutting along the grout line as it is easy to damage the adjacent tile, just cut a line 5 or 10mm in from the grout line.
Don't forget dust protection, this proceedure makes a lot of fine dust.

Brett, i just read what i wrote the other day, i probly should have added that when i used the tradelink hammer on my tiles, they were adhered to concrete, so i could afford to be a bit rough:o

No probs - did the job yesterday they were on top of about an inch of cement so chiselled them off after getting grout out with dremel tool and cutting tiles with diamond blade on angle grinder - like cutting through butter! Most fun was taking vanity out piece by piece including cutting it up to leave taps behind.

Just have to take off wall tiles, level up floor, fill hole in floor, waterproof all and re-tile before fitting new vanity. At least the job should be easier next time. Here a progress shot. Cheers:D
