cheap light source for old blind buggers

For all of you including me if you need a light next to that bandsaw or sliding mitre saw this may be an answer.

I saw these lights on ebay (The ebay ones will cost you more as you have to add the postage.) then found one in a el cheapo shop for $3, K Mart have them for $4.99. They are 5 volts and the outside connections of the plug are the voltage wires used. Get a plug from a lead or old computer along with a charger transformer and you can fix a light up right next to that blade when you try to cut something. Works a treat.

As an aside, I hate these Hong Kong sites as the postage often is up to 5000% more than the item, wonder how many people get caught out and only bid on price of item.
Saw a fishing reel going for 99c and postage was AU$45.00, was an unknown brand to make it better still, probably where they make their money.

I saw an electric guitar on Ebay for bargain price of $1. Only catch was delivery costs of $350. :rolleyes:

I purchased a small LED lamp on an 18" flexible rod with an attached battery pack from a company here in Australia called BattPack. All up including postage was about $20 to $30. Very much worth it.

Far better than stuffing around with additional power supplies.

I bought a small high intensity LED cyclists "headlight" for <$25. It's powered by 4xAAA alkaline cells, provides a surprising amount of light, lasts +/- 50hours per battery set & is simplicity iteself to fit on the bandsaw.

I opted for the transformer power supply as I invarably find I leave the battery powered thingies on and then I'm stuck with a flat battery.

I put a touch light in a darkcorner of my storage shelves but after leaving it on several times whilst working or overnight I decided direct power was a better option.

The transformer form a Disson lawn clipper charger came from my junk pile and all up it has cost just $3. Whatever power source you use the 5/15" appox diameter light makes it real easy to place close to your blade drill bit or other place you need good light.

I just thought for the price they may be worth a look at for anyone wanting a light source at the cost of a globe.

In K_ mart etc you can get 20W halogen desk lamps, they are bright as, and have extendable arms and can be adjusted pretty well. They should be under $20, mine has a plastic/glass plate over the bulb. Looking at replacment bulbs is about $8 for two, but I've had my lamp for about 3 years, and havnt had to replace a bulb yet.

Yep, I'd be lost without my one of these. But I keep it on my head, so its always there when I need it.;)
