i am currently putting new archs and skirts in the house and in line with everything else, they will be stained, using Wattyl stains. All very well except the wife can't stand the smell and does feel quite ill when i use it, in turn cracking the s****s which in turn makes me unwell.
Does anyone know how to quickly rid the house of the smell of such stains?
Is it possible to stain the timber before installing it or is it too late for that?
If not, stain the timber outside, wait for it to dry, bring it in, knock it up, and crack a cold one! :) You will still get some smell, but it won't be as bad...
What Felder said. I'd also look at putting a clear-coat sealer on it outside too, as it sounds like your other half may have low tolerance to the solvents... in effect the smell is poisoning her. I know a few people with similar problems, including a couple of woodies. They love working the wood, but finishing is a nightmare for 'em.
Regardless of the reason, a miserable wife makes a miserable life. Do it outside, even if it means removing what you've done and refitting with a bit of putty. Drop the odd hint about all the extra work you're doing just for concern over her well-being... it may pay off in other ways. ;)

Thanks guys for all your advice. Seems she doesn't like the Cabothane either so best to ship her off for a few years, sorry, i mean days when time comes around. Mmmmmmm, wonder if i can stain the whole house.........
