Improving vacuum cleaner performance

I use a vacuum cleaner with a plastic nozzle on the concrete floor of my shed, and the abrasion had worn it flat. The flat nozzle would just stick to the floor, and the airflow would be blocked. I glued a washer to each side of the nozzle with some two-part epoxy (Araldite, pic 1), and now it works perfectly again because of the small gap (pic 2) between the nozzle and the floor. The metal washers should stand up to abrasion better than the plastic, and can be easily replaced.

A high return for a 10 minute job.

Nowhere good I can tell you. SWMBO caught me washing my waterstones about 8 months ago, now I have to do the washing up every day.:o

I agree with Scooter!!

I think you should have turned the washers from lignum vitae or some other hard, self-lubricating wood, and maybe even included a mini-cyclone in the vacuum head.

I've heard that a granite surface plate can be very useful when setting the correct clearance gap beneath vacuum heads.

I have an outlet on me dusty that is connected to the big flat head from the carbatec $80 pack, this sits on the floor held in place by bricks and I just sweep into it when the floor gets too dirty.. works for me, I'll take a photo and post it when i go out to the shed (soonish - depends on the boy....)
