I have a day to kill this coming weekend in Melbourne. Anyone know any interesting things to do/places to see? Should either be of interest to a hobbyist woodworker, or to my 15 year old son, or prefereably both.

Zen, spend some of the day in and around Richmond, Collingwood and Fitzroy checking out the furniture galleries. You will take home some great ideas and inspiration. :D
Here is the web addys of a few shops in those areas. The Nic Dattner one is a hoot when you see the prices. Around $4000 for a 1000 x 1000 plain red gum coffee table:eek:

Mortice and Tenon is a shop i like. They have alot of contemporary hand veneered furniture

Thomas Gannon sells good basic quality furniture. The type that i would recomend if anyone wants to make a quid in woodwork (not ripping him of though;) ) this shop is worth a look

And a more modern contemporary shop with some fantastic design. I love their accessory range. Some terrific giftware

If it's a Saturday check out a game at the home of Aussie Rules, the mighty MCG. We don't break Crows supporters noses over here.

Won't just being in Melbourne kill the day???

Nothing is as good as your home city, Just spent a week in Freeo, a few weeks in Adelaide, some time in Sydney and it's not the actual place it's the support of good people and places you are familiar with. So the best place to live????
Where your heart is.
Zenwood is asking us to tell him where to go... oh so tempting;):D:D

Thanks for those suggestions guys. I might barter a furniture shop or two in exchange for taking the lad to a footy match. Anyone know who's playing on Saturday...what time...can you buy tickets at the venue...where do you park?
Bodgy: that weblink was refused by my work's gatekeeper. Must be a dodgy site:o
Mate, when did you last have anything to do with teenage boys?Quote:

If you haven't any preference, head to the Saturday game at the MCG - the new stadium and atmosphere there is unbelievable!
Parking is easy there - off Punt Road. Public Transport is also very straight-forward - http://www.mcg.org.au/default.asp?pg...y&articleid=74
Tickets can be bought at the ground on the day.
