Are cameras allowed into the show?

HI,


Sorry for the unusual questions, but I was wondering if cameras are allowed into the woodworking show in Sydney?


People are getting more and more sensitive these days about these things so I thought it would be best to check. (I couldn't find any info on the main show info page) plus maybe the demonstrators might not like having videos made because they might sell demo videos?


If you can take a camera, is it actually worth taking one, or would there be too much wood dust in the air, too crowded, etc?


I was thinking of going tommorrow (Friday) would there be less people there then or would it be the same on the weekend?

I took a camera to the Melbourne show last year, no problem. Only where it came to photographing other people's work, I asked permission before doing so. Some had no problem, others preferred I didn't, so everyone was kept happy. (Those that didn't were normally commercial furniture companies, and I had no problem with them rejecting my request. As for demonstrators, they are all woodworkers - aka typically very approachable - just wander up and ask!

Re dust - not a problem at the show - there isn't too much produced, and those that do are required to have dust extraction equipment for OHS issues. As to crowds, if it is anything like Melbourne, there are always plenty of opportunities to get a good shot when crowds thin etc.

(As opposed to the Commonwealth Games - I had no problems at any event, except for the MCG where a young security guy balked when he saw the size of my DSLR. I finally convinced his boss to let me in (as I don't shoot commercially, and it was a small lens on the front), but neither were on the ball enough to realise the lenses were changable, and I had the equivalent of a 900mm in my camera bag!)

I have taken a camera to most WW shows without incident, most demonstrators are so vain they almost beg you to take a piccy:D
I even posted one of a moderator and it was removed, wasn't even rude:rolleyes:

Just one thing... dont use a flash if taking a photo of a demonstration being done on a machine while its going!

No problem I was thinking the same thing :) I have a manual pop-up flash so it's easy to avoid taking a photo with it.
