What is the best way to eliminate the noise of feet walking above you with a new suspended timber floor? Typically structafloor on joists @ 450 centres.
Will it blow the budget?

Depends on how big the budget is :D
100mm SonoBatts
The following is from the Bradford web site:
"Soundscreen installed between floors in 2 storey homes will reduce the amount of airborne noise transmission between floors."
I have an identical situation, 250mm structafloor joists at 450mm centres, and so investigated this problem a short while ago. Although it is no longer there, I am sure that the last time I looked at the Bradford website the above went on to say that there wasn't much you could do to eliminate the impact noise of foot traffic other than wearing appropriate footwear. The airborne noise refers to the telly, radio, talking etc. I formed the opinion that it probably wasn't worthwhile installing interfloor soundproofing but I could be persuaded otherwise. The plaster is going up in the next couple of weeks hopefully so I have to make a decsion pretty soon.
Do put something in there, my folks regretted not doing that in their two story big reno

Airborne noise is the easier to eliminate by ceiling batts etc.
Foot noise is the harder & comes down to the travel path created by the ceiling construction. For example a suspended ceiling (on rods) has less material to transfer through.
Use rondo resilient ceiling mounts. They reduce impact sound transfer. Screw them to the joists and use 129 channel. A 4m x 5m room uses about 25 at $5 each.
Also use heavy plasterboard such as 13mm fire resistant and batts.
I used them in a 100 yr old place and they make a huge difference.
Cheers
