Sealing slab without vapour barrier

Hi all,
I am thinking about converting a carport situated at one end of the house in to a storage and utility room. The carport slab, I am pretty sure, lacks a vapour barrier. Is it possible to use a product like silasec to waterproof it or should I look at putting another slab or topping coat over it.

I think you mean a moisture barrier/waterproof membrane (plastic sheeting). Why don't you have a dig alongside the edge and under the slab to determine if plastic sheeting was laid.

In reality for the use you have stated I wouldn't worry about it.

He is correct in using the term "Vapour Barrier" as specified in AS 2870 "Residential Slabs and Footings". The plastic sheeting is NOT intended to be a waterproof membrane (unless you live in areas such as SA where damp proof membranes are sometimes used)
