Just watched Wolf Creek any truth to the Matter?

Yup. Lots of truth. I haven't seen it but it's been discussed on a horror writer's email group I'm a member of. The consensus is they dropped the ball a fair bit, made changes to the facts (and left stuff out) that weakened the story and made it less horrible than it really was. He was one very scary pussy cat.

He's been sitting in prison for donkey's years. One of those 'oh, we've lost the key' jobs. We don't have many of them here, but he's one.

Here are GoogleEarth images of the Wolf Creek crater.

Wasn't it a composite of a few different things?

Ivan Milat, who picked up backpackers South and Sydney and killed them in a forest.

That guy/ two guys who killed a few people on a trip through Queensland and Northen NSW

Peter Falconio and Joanne Lees, as well. Faclonio was killed by a bloke called Bradley Murdoch in the Northern Territory. Their car was pulled over by Murdoch and tied up Lees and killed Falconio (whom has never been found)

Either way Australia is a horrible place to visit, there are killers everywhere, 1000's of people go missing everyday and there a hundreds of unsolved murders.

The film is fictional although claimed to be based on reality.

There have been a few very high profile cases here in recent years where backpackers from overseas were murdered. For example, Bradley Murdoch was recently found guilty of the murder of british tourist, Peter Falconio in the Northern Territory. The case received worldwide attention, largely because of the escape and subsequent testimony of Falconio's girlfriend, the very photogenic Miss Joanne Lees.

Before that there was the notorious Ivan Milat who was found guilty of seven backpacker murders. Both Milat and Murdoch are suspected of having been responsible for other murders.

Unfortunately backpackers are easy targets for predators like Milat and Murdoch. Usually they travel alone or in couples, they carry everything they own with them and their disappearance is not likely to be noticed for some time.

I understood it was based on Milat - certainly, the failure to remain coherent with his story was a major source of disapointment among the reviewers. Perhaps it had been touted as such in the lead up to it being made.

He's currently serving 7 life sentences (imposed on July 1996), one for each of his victims.

Not to mention the snakes (7 of the 10 most deadly reside here), or the spiders ( funnel webs, trap doors, red-backs), the sharkes and killer rips at the beaches, let alone the were-wombats drop-bears or child eating dingoes :rolleyes:
It's marvelous that any one lasts here at all , no wonder we turn out good athletes kids have to be quick fast and strong just to survive :D

I can't remember who it was, but I saw some comedian talking about Australia and it went something like this:

"I love Australia. I mean, you have killer sharks and snakes and massive deserts - even the jellyfish can kill you. Where else in the world can you die from simply sitting on something on the toilet seat? Yet even with all of these horrors... There are never, ever, any worries!"
