Structural post move?

Hi all

The house i am looking at buying has a pole in the middle of the house.

House is 7.8m x 7.8m with a mezzanine level supported by two timber beams that meet in the middle of the house.

It is supported by a 100mm square post that supports the two beams where they meet (butt together). The roof is supported by the walls.

Is it possible to move the post about 1m across and somehow support it from there (plating?).

Will definately get an engineer to inspect it if I go ahead but just after some advice in the meantime.

If I were you I would bolt a Steel PFC to the timber beam and get rid of the post all together.

At 7.8 meters it would be a chore.
A steel angle bolted to the beams could be designed to cantilver the meter with the whole lot boxed out & covered for asthetics.
