Hi! Can anybody tell me whether it is better to use anchor bolts or splitz to hold down joists on to a concrete floor? When laying a wooden floor on joists, is black plastic necessary as a moisture barrier and if so, why would you put glue on the joists to hold them down? ( aren't you just glueing the joist to the plastic)

A splitz is a funny looking/shaped nail that is used for anchoring flooring to concrete slabs.

When you say joists, do you mean battens?
joists are 4x2, 6x2 etc etc etc. Battens are 3x1, 3x1and 1/4, 2x1and1/2 etc etc etc.
menbrane the slab with 2 micron poly overlap the edges 300 mm tape the joins with high quality 200 mph tape. bring the poly sheet 70mm up the walls and tape to the wall. the Skirting will cover it, Don't worry.
Install the battens at 400 centres with splitz at 400 centres.

Is the use of 6mm X 40 mm dyna bolts recommended or do you have to use splitz. I'm getting confused with terminology. I have bought 500 dynas are these suffice? The battens I'm using are 100mm x 23 mm. What size would you recommend? Hope you can help me!

Ramset, Reid and Scan make a aluminium pin with a nail inside. They have a mushroom head and there is a version that is also nylon (not that you would use it for flooring).
I also saw some different types at Ankors flooring which follow the same principle. While I think the Dynabolts will work, it will take forever and a day. If its an option take the dynabolts back and get the mushroom type fixings.

There is a heap of instructionals on the web on how to go about wat your doing. I thought I read somewhere not to cover concrete with plastic as the slab needs to still breath? :confused:
