Polyurethane looks yellow on American Oak

Hi,

I have tried Cabot's CFP satin which is a polyurethane for floors. I had used it before on a floor and thought it was OK so I thought I would use it on a benchtop. This benchtop is American Oak which is pretty light and I would like to keep the colour as unchanged as possible. The problem is that the polyurethane is not totally clear; it gives a yellow/golden colour to the wood which, while not really bad in it's own right will not fit in with where the furniture will go.

Is there a truly clear polyurethane (or whatever) finish around? On the tin of this stuff is says clear...

PS: I am using a sheepskin applicator and a brush.

Try White shellac from Neil's uBeaut? Not a poly-U, but IMO a better finish anyway...

Look for products called "Ultra-clear". I know sikkens make one

The clear water based acrylics are generally non yellwing
