Tins of [insert type] Finish

The first thing I do when I get a new tin of oil, varnish, paint, etc. is to knock about half a dozen holes in the recess of the rim with a nail.

Nail size is determined using a very complicated mathematical process. If it's a big tin with gluggy stuff, use a biggish nail. A small tin with runny stuff uses a smaller nail.

This way the excess from wiping your brush is drained back into the tin (saving money):) and the rim doesn't get full of stuff which splatters ever you when you bang the lid on (saving a bashing from SWMBO):eek: .

But wouldnt it allow air into the tin, and make the product go off?
Or are you using all the paint in one go?

Interesting idea but i always put the lid back on when im finished and store it upside down to stop the top bit oxidising and going hard. so it wouldnt be a good idea for me.

The holes are punched into the channel around the top where the lid fits into the can so when the lid is fitted the holes are covered.

You can buy a special spray to put in the can before closing to stop that, or, do it on the cheap by squirting in some gas from your BBQ bottle and put the lid straight on, does the same thing.
Greenie will be accepted for this money saver but a cheque would be preferable:rolleyes:

Good tip, now all I need is the tip for getting burnt waterbased paint off the BBQ.:confused:

Ozwinner just turn the Barby on full bore and go inside for about an hour it will all just burn off. Quick flash with a wire brush and there you go.
