Hi just connecting new carport guttering into tanks with live stormwater drain. I’ll be using 90mm stormwater pipe and being as it’s pretty flimsy stuff should I put some sand in the trench with the gravel so it doesn’t pierce with the stones, or is it ok to just use gravel?
Pipe will go from roof height down into ground, along about 8 metres then up into tank (which is lower than guttering)
There's something you might want to consider with this plan.
I built a filter using stormwater pipes and fitted it under the gutter. It was just a short thing that was made up of several junctions, but the design resulted in water being retained inside. So, it wasn't a good design. The filter worked okay, but if there were no regular rain showers and there remained a buildup of sediment, dead insects, etc, in there, the water inside the filter would go stagnant.
You might experience the same thing with that 8 meter length. Consider something else, or consider fitting a plug at each end of the section that runs along the ground. So that you can drain it periodically and allow the dead leaves, spiders, mice, and other crap to be flushed out. Perhaps one at each end.

I think stormwater pipe is pretty tough. So long as you don't go walking or driving over it.

And if using 90mm above ground it must be painted as it is not uv protected whereas 100 dwv is uv protected.
Also considering it will be full of water at most times be sure to use cleaning fluid before gluing the joints.
100mm materials might be double 90mm prices but way cheaper than having to do it again.
