i have bedroom window that i never used in 10 years, never even opened the curtains in that time.
looking for some sound insulation to put in it to stop noise coming through.
opening is 2000mm wide x 1050 high and 100mm deep. its a block wall its in.
im thinking of putting some sound insulation in it between the curtains so cant see it from outside that will block noise and screws board over the window on the inside. i have 100mm of gap to play with.
what would be best sound proofing for this?
So are you trying to stop the noise and dont want ANY light coming through?
Otherwise a double skin of plaster board is the cheapest and one of the best ways to stop noise. If you want some light double plane windows are your only real option.
also dont cheap put and put "egg carton" style foam. It doesnt work, itll help cut down echo but not noise. The only thing to stop noise is physical mass which is why layers of plasterboard work not "insulation".

I probably wouldn't bother with the insulation but I would go
double skin layer of plasterboard window side
attach it to a timber frame
put insulation in the frame if you really want.
another layer of plasterboard wall side just to match everything thing/look nice.
yeah ok worth a go i guess.
been about 3 weeks since i have done this, 70x45mm frame but only used on sheet of gyprock on each side as that is all the room i had and it was nice and flush with the wall and put some sound proofing batts in the middle.
so far the Mrs is happy, hasnt been woken up by anything in 3 weeks which is not usual, neither have i so it definitely worked.
